Coaching Skills for Film & TV Managers

Coaching has become an essential part of leadership required to produce the best teams in the workplace. It encourages ownership and responsibility, leading to staff being happier and more motivated, and helps to evolve a positive culture in the workplace.

This comprehensive 1-day workshops aims to give participants a broad range of coaching skills with an equal focus on theory and knowledge sharing, and applied practice. As well as covering the foundations of coaching including active listening; quality open questions; building rapport; and goal setting – the session will also cover a range of techniques drawn from the fields of behaviour change and positive psychology. These include empowering people; building agency and self-efficacy; decisional balance; and strengths identification and application.

This session will focus on workplace conversations and include trauma informed listening, and effective signposting will also be covered to ensure participants are confident they can safeguard should any mental health or sensitive disclosures be shared.

Lastly, there will be a focus throughout on boundaries, ethical approaches, and the well-being of the participants.

 

Participants will learn:

> Building Trust and Rapport;

> Active Listening;

> Open Questions;

> Techniques to empower and build self-agency;

> Strengths Coaching approaches;

> Ethics and Boundaries.

 

Who is this course for?

This course is aimed at crew members who are in, or soon to be in, managerial/supervisory roles.

 

Tutor:

This course is delivered by Michelle White, an experienced and qualified Positive Psychologist and member of British Psychological Society (BPS) and founder of 6ft from the Spotlight, the industry body leading on mental health and well-being within the film and television industry.

 

Eligibility:

This session is specifically for established film and television practitioners based in Scotland. Please only apply if you meet this criteria. BECTU opportunities for those in other areas of the UK can be found here: EnglandWales.

> Applicants should be based and working freelance in film and television in Scotland.

> Students are not eligible for this training.

 

Selection:

> As this is a workshop style course, there are a limited number of spaces available to allow participants the opportunity to interact and ask questions.

> Priority for spaces will be given to eligible BECTU members.

> If more BECTU members apply than spaces available, places will be given to those who demonstrate the greatest professional need for this training.

> Places are provided free of charge but are worth a considerable amount. Please only apply if you can commit to attending the session.

> We have a travel fund to support anyone who may need help with travel costs.
