We were delighted to host a session at BBC Pacific Quay partnering with award-winning Deaf-led theatre company Solar Bear.
The one-day session held in November, brought together emerging freelancers, new entrants and those exploring their next steps in the screen industry for a day filled with learning, networking and inspiration.

Some of the highlights of the workshop included:
> A Q&A session with freelance industry professionals – Mark Leese, Production Designer, Art Department; Alison Still, Production Co-ordinator, Production Department and Clyde Jones, 1st Assistant Camera/Focus Puller, Camera Department
> An insight into film and tv production in Scotland
> Who’s who in the crew and which department is right for you
> The essential need to know‘s of set etiquette
> An opportunity to review real scripts, call sheets, and shooting schedules
> Writing effective CVs for film and television
> Navigating the realities of freelance life, from finding jobs to understanding how recruitment works
> And exploring current opportunities including the BBC Extend scheme, TRC’s Rad Scheme and Kit Start’s Work experience programme.


Get Set Go for Solar Bear followed on from an introductory online overview of working freelance in Film and Television, held in June.
We’ve been working alongside Solar Bear’s Film & Screen Lead Officer, Klarissa Webster to build a stronger connection between the Deaf community and the film and TV industry, and we’re looking forward to continue working together in 2026.
