Intimacy Coordination: For Costume Teams

Intimacy Coordination for Costume Teams will explore the role of the Intimacy Coordinator and how they work with the costume department to create the best environment when preparing for and filming intimate scenes.

This course is designed to address this uniquely challenging area of production in film & TV drama in order to improve crew and cast safety and comfort, whilst maintaining high production values.

Course content:

– What is included in the concept of “intimacy” on screen

– The history of the role and why it is so needed

– What is an intimacy coordinator and how do they work?

– The roles and responsibilities of the costume department working with actors and ICs

– What happens before during and after filming intimate scenes

– Closed set protocols

– Assessing Risk and how to mitigate it

By the end of the workshop learners will:

– Understand the purpose of working with Intimacy Coordinators

– Know how the ICs work and integrate with the costume department

– Understand how to work collaboratively and effectively with ICs from the perspective of your own role.

Tutor
Vanessa Coffey is one of a small but growing number of Intimacy Coordinators in the UK. She has worked across a wide range of theatre and screen productions including Sky’s I Hate Suzie, Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga, Sky’s Wolfe, Fox’s War of the Worlds Season 2 and BBC Scotland’s Float. Vanessa has held courses and presentations in the UK and internationally, contributed to the Directors UK Guidelines: Directing Nudity and Simulated Sex, and founded the Intimacy Practitioners’ Guild (IPG) alongside fellow industry professionals.

Who is this course for?
This course is for film & television practitioners based in Scotland, who work in the Costume Department. It is suitable to those working at all levels.

Eligibility:

This session is specifically for established film and television practitioners based in Scotland, working in the costume department. Please only register if you meet this criteria. BECTU opportunities for those in other areas of the UK can be found here:
England, Wales.

– Attendees should be based and working freelance in film and television in Scotland.

– We’re targeting practitioners working in scripted production for this course.

– Students are not eligible for this training.

Places are provided free of charge but are worth a considerable amount.
