Barbering Training Sessions on Set in 2025

Barbering expertise is a vital skill for hair and make-up artists on film and TV sets, enabling the creation of authentic male character looks while efficiently meeting the varied demands of production.

Last year, we were pleased to support the Hair & Make-Up departments on a number of productions including Only Child, Maya and Granite Harbour with dedicated Barbering Skills training sessions, designed specifically for production environments.

Hair and make-up practitioners got the chance to level up their barbering skills on set, with an interactive, hands-on session delivered by Alex Mills, an experienced barber at Handsome Jack’s Barber in Shawlands.

Focusing on core barbering techniques, including short cuts and fades, Alex guided the teams through a series of step-by-step demonstrations, before allowing them the chance to practise and following up with immediate advice.

With the sessions delivered at Unit Base, practitioners were able to learn and build confidence in these techniques in a supportive, relaxed and comfortable environment.

Bring Barbering Skills training to your production

We offer free barbering skills training sessions, as part of our Skills Boost programme.

Each session is tailored to your team’s needs – they are designed to be flexible and fit seamlessly into your schedule.

Our barbering trainer can visit you and your team on your truck or at your base, during filming or whilst in prep or wrap to help build confidence, upskill and refresh your team’s knowledge and experience.

Sessions focus on practical learning, offering:

– Guided demonstrations covering a range of core barbering techniques

– A chance to receive real-time guidance and constructive feedback

– An open discussion addressing specific challenges faced on set and any questions
