BECTU VISION RELEASES SHORTER WORKING HOURS REPORT

‘Designing a blueprint for a shorter working day in film and scripted drama’

BECTU Vision and flexible working experts Timewise have been working in partnership to investigate the long-hours culture in film and TV and explore viable alternatives.

Supported by Screen Scotland, the BBC and the Film and TV Charity, the partnership have released an in-depth feasibility study which has created a framework for how to implement shorter hours on productions and includes a first of its kind analysis into the budget and schedule implications of filming with reduced hours.

The report was created based on feedback from a UK wide survey of 800 film and television crew members and found that over 98% of those surveyed wanted a shorter working day and 71% would be prepared to pro-rata their rate to work less hours.

We are hoping this research will inspire and we’re advocating for the report recommendations to be taken forward in a pilot project at the earliest opportunity.
