Becoming a Screen Sustainability Coordinator

Presented by Culture for Climate Scotland’s, Sara Hamilton and Romane Boyer, this 2-day course will provide an introduction to the role of Screen Sustainability Coordinator. The course will cover how sustainability fits into every stage of production – from pre-shoot planning to wrap, how to engage with crew when you’re asking them to work differently and we will also cover personal wellbeing in a role that’s often a department of one.

> How to complete BAFTA Albert certification

> Planning power to maximize efficiency

> Reducing travel & transport emissions

> Climate content onscreen

> Sustainability of self when you’re a department of one on set

> Case studies from productions in Scotland

> Scottish laws and emissions targets and how they relate to screen

Participants will:

>  Be equipped with the skills required to work as a Sustainability Coordinator on any scripted or unscripted production

>  Learn how to engage crew within their departments

>  Gain the latest knowledge of sustainability in the sector

>  Build confidence implementing initiatives on their next production

Who is this course for?
This course is for existing film and television professionals with an interest in screen sustainability and who are considering transferring into screen sustainability coordinator positions.

Tutor:
This course has been developed and will be co-hosted by Culture for Climate Scotland’s Senior Green Arts and Screen Officer, Romane Boyer and Screen Sustainability Consultant, Sara Hamilton. Sara Hamilton has worked as a Sustainability Coordinator on recent productions such as Lockerbie: A Search for Truth and Coldwater and is a part-time Sustainability Manager for Sustainability Consultancy, Picture Zero.

Eligibility:

This session is specifically for established film and television practitioners based in Scotland. Please only apply if you meet this criteria. BECTU opportunities for those in other areas of the UK can be found here: EnglandWales.

> Applicants should be based and working freelance in film and television in Scotland.

> Students are not eligible for this training.

 

Selection:

> As this is a workshop style course, there are a limited number of spaces available to allow participants the opportunity to interact and ask questions.

> Places will be given to those who demonstrate the greatest professional need for this training with eligible Bectu members receiving priority for places.

> Places are provided free of charge but are worth a considerable amount. Please only apply if you can commit to attending both days of training.

 

Access:

>   The training room is has step-free access, accessible parking and accessible toilets.

>  Access requirements can be arranged for those selected including BSL translation, captions and large print etc.

> Culture for Climate Scotland are offering a participation fee of £150 per day + travel expenses for those taking part.
