Practical Accredited (Children’s) Regulation Training

Whether directly or indirectly working around children, having a clear understanding of the Government Regulations and Local Authorities requirements, is essential, along with how to interpret these in practical terms. In line with this, we also have a responsibility to safeguard children and ourselves ensuring we are all supported with the correct tools and framework.

This online, City & Guilds accredited training course provides a practical guide for working with under 18’s in film and television in Scotland. 

Course content:
> Best practice
> CB2W- Casting brief to wrap – where risks are attached
> Ofcom codes
> Working with professional chaperones and tutors
> Parents and loco parentis
> Legalities of the child licence
> Types of child licences and council spot checks
> Children’s working hours, timesheets, night shoots
> Over nights and accommodation, travelling and TMO’s
> Time management
> Aggregating tutor hours
> Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
> Safeguarding, PENS and codes of conduct
> 16-18’s
> Close contact and Intimacy
> Audit trails and compliance guides

Participants will:

> Understand the Government Regulations and Local Authorities requirements for filming with children
> Build their professional network
> Increased confidence in their role

 

Who is this course for?

This course is for new and existing Chaperones in film and television production, Assistant Directors and Production Practitioners.

 

Tutor:

Arlene De Cruz, has been working for over 17 years in Film, TV and Theatre Industries and has seen first hand the challenges that production face on a daily basis when working with children and young people. In 2013, Arlene was part of the working groups for the current English and Scottish Children’s Regulation revisions, delivering those in 2014 around the UK with Department of Education, PACT and the BBC. Arlene also founded the Broadcast & Film Chaperones & Tutors Branch within BECTU.

 

Eligibility:

This session is specifically for established film and television practitioners based in Scotland. Please only apply if you meet this criteria. BECTU opportunities for those in other areas of the UK can be found here: EnglandWales.

> Applicants should be based and working freelance in film and television in Scotland.

> Students are not eligible for this training.

 

Selection:

> As this is a workshop style course, there are a limited number of spaces available to allow participants the opportunity to interact and ask questions.

> Priority for spaces will be given to eligible BECTU members.

> If more BECTU members apply than spaces available, places will be given to those who demonstrate the greatest professional need for this training Places are provided free of charge but are worth a considerable amount. Please only apply if you can commit to attending the session.

 

Access:

> Access requirements can be arranged for those selected including BSL translation, captions and large print etc.
