Risk Management of Productions

Providing a broad overview of the risk management issues to be considered during production, and help participants develop confidence and increase knowledge of best practice in creating and implementing safe working environments.

This course will explain why Risk Management is needed in production and give practical methods of how it should be tackled.

Risk Management of Productions is the industry standard, accredited course for film & TV practitioners, and is part of the Production Safety Passport, valid for 5 years.

What you’ll learn

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

– Explain key risk management considerations in film and television production, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and effective health, safety, and environmental management.
– Analyse risk management techniques used within production, including approaches to hazard identification and risk assessment.
– Apply good health and safety management practices to location-based filming environments.
– Describe risk management policies and procedures, including appropriate interaction with contractors and third parties.
– Identify the relevant legal framework underpinning health and safety in film and television production.

Who is this course for?
This course is for freelance film & TV practitioners in Scotland who manage people, safety on production and/or complete/approve risk assessments.

Tutor
First Option’s Risk Management of Production Course is the industry standard, accredited course, and part of the Production Safety Passport Scheme, valid for 5 years. The course is delivered by Mairi Ritchie, the primary Health & Safety Consultation for scripted Film & TV productions in Scotland. Mairi has been a safety consultant for Action Media Safety and First Option in Scotland for 9 years as well as running her own H&S Consultancy and Training.

Eligibility:

The programme is specifically for established film and television practitioners based in Scotland. Please only apply if you meet this criteria. BECTU opportunities for those in other areas of the UK can be found here: England, Wales.

> Applicants should be based and working freelance in film and television in Scotland.

> Students are not eligible for this training.

Selection:

> As this is a workshop style course, there are a limited number of spaces available to allow participants the opportunity to interact and ask questions.

> Places will be given to those who demonstrate the greatest professional need for this training with eligible Bectu members receiving priority for places.

> Places are provided free of charge but are worth a considerable amount. 

Access:

The training will take place in person in Glasgow. If selected, we can help with travel costs for those based out-with Glasgow.

Access requirements can be arranged for those selected.
