Script Editor Traineeship

Salary: £600 per week + holiday pay
Hours: 35 hours per week
BECTU Vision, is recruiting one Trainee Script Editor to work full time with a year-long contract based at River City in Dumbarton.
Working closely with the BECTU Vision Programme Manager and River City, our Script Editor Trainee will learn the fundamentals of script editing through a combination of employment and short courses where they will:
> Learn about the role of a Script Editor in development, including conceptualizing and idea, and how to develop it
> Learn the skills to communicate effectively as a Script Editor, including how to work with Writers and Executives
> Have one to one sessions with Executives, and participate in meetings with Writers, Directors, and Producers when appropriate
> Receive training in Final Draft software.
Duties & Responsibilities will vary depending on placement but will include:
> Conducting in-depth research
> Writing up notes from script meetings
> Assisting the drama teams with script admin
> Contributing to development and ideas meetings
> Ensuring that scripts are prepared in the appropriate format.
> Coordinating and communicating all script changes to those concerned
> During preparation of scripts, to carry out all required ‘negative’ checks (eg brand names) and to ensure that all reasonable action has been taken to avoid copyright infringement, libel and defamation.
> Providing writers with sufficient information to enable the editorial brief to be met in respect of style, content, form and any other special considerations
> Representing the interests of the writer to the production team and to ensure that the author consents to script changes and to convey the writer’s point of view in their absence
> Ensuring that the writer is actively involved in script alterations to preserve the quality of the working relationship between the Producer/Director and writer
> When necessary, ensuring the consistent treatment of established characters and continuity within the story line
> Where appropriate and when instructed, to undertake any necessary re‑writing
> Assessing scripts submitted from all sources (including unsolicited) and responding appropriately, providing advice and constructive criticism where necessary
> Seeking new material and take steps to identify and encourage new writing talent and to maintain an up‑to‑date awareness of emerging talent
> Generating creative ideas, treatments and formats.
Experience:
Candidates will have:
> 1 years’ experience of Script Reading or Reporting and/or one years’ professional experience working in film & Television
> Be based in Scotland with an investment of living and working in Scotland
> A passion and a good knowledge and understanding of the television drama landscape in Scotland and the wider UK
> An ability to generate original & creative ideas
> A high level of organisational and communication skills
