BECTU Vision is proud to announce the launch of a brand-new Flexible Working Fund, supported by Screen Scotland and BFI designed to support productions across Scotland in introducing and testing more flexible, inclusive ways of working.
If you’ve been searching for film & TV funding in Scotland that helps create more sustainable working conditions for yourself or your crew, this fund is for you.
Why Flexible Working Matters in Film & TV
The nature of the film and TV industry has traditionally been built around long hours and high-pressure environments, often making it difficult for people with caring responsibilities, those returning from leave, or crew approaching retirement to stay in the industry.
At BECTU Vision, we believe flexible working is no longer a ‘nice to have’, it’s essential. If the industry wants to retain experienced professionals, attract new talent, and build a healthier, more inclusive workforce, we must rethink how productions are structured.
What the Flexible Working Fund Offers
This new fund supports productions that want to explore different models of flexibility. Examples of what we can support include:
- Keeping in Touch Days (KIT) for crew members returning from maternity leave
- On-set mentoring by experienced crew to help others step up
- Part-time attendance at recces, production meetings, and other key days — ideal for carers, returners, and semi-retired professionals
The fund is designed to be adaptable to each production’s needs, so we’re open to conversations about bespoke ideas that promote better work-life balance on set.
To qualify, your production must be based in Scotland and be committed to testing and learning from new ways of working.
This fund is complemented by our job-sharing handover Day fund to support job-sharers on productions – find out more about that fund here
